Mission
of The Summer Sizzle is to raise crucial funds for two amazing
causes.
·
Osteosarcoma (bone
cancer) research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
·
Brain Cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Our Inspiration
|
Eight years ago, the Summer Sizzle for a
Cure, was created in honor of young
Timmy O’Brien. Timmy was diagnosed
with Osteosarcoma bone cancer in 2003 and received in- and out-patient treatment
at Dana-Farber for two years before losing his brave fight with cancer at age
five. Timmy inspired a group of
Dedham Police Offices and their friends/families to create a charity bike-riding team,
Team Dedham Health High Street
Blues. In addition to monies
raised by riding annually in the Pass-Mass Challenge, the riders, their friends
and families, and the Dedham Health Club honor Timmy
– and the fight
of young bone cancer patients around the world – by holding Summer Sizzle every
June. |
Team
Vlad, another wonderful group of bike riders in the Pan-Mass Challenge,
joined our Summer Sizzle Event Family in 2009. Team
Vlad is comprised of friends, family and colleagues of Vlad Formanek, a former anesthesiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital who is currently fighting
brain cancer at Dana-Farber. Diagnosed
with cancer in 2008, Vlad is a friend, mentor and inspiration to all of those
who have met and worked along side him. |
